About

Welcome to The Store Cupboard Veggie blog! I’m Hannah and this is my first blog. Over the past few years I have developed a passion for experimenting with food and techniques, and creating some delicious vegetarian meals and recipes. And some not so delicious failures too - but, I’m learning! Learn with me?

I find inspiration from a variety of places – one of my favourite past times is sitting with a cup of tea (wine) and a cook book, but I equally enjoying opening the fridge and seeing what’s what or going to an interesting market or supermarket to find some goodies, and creating vegetarian recipes that way.

Just over a year ago I fledged the nest and moved in with my lovely boyfriend Carl.

Would you believe this is a normal size sombrero??? He just has a GIANT HEAD.

And this is our little cat Libby. Meow!

Now, there are two challenges.

Carl and Libby are both chicken chomping, steak snaffling, turkey twiddling (twiddling? All in the name of alliteration my friend) non-veggies. While this is fine for my furry feline friend (more alliteration. BOOM!), it is more challenging when cooking meals for myself and Carl. He is not just a meat-eater but a keen cyclist, and bravely (foolishly) cycles 8 miles to and from work each day. Meals need to be high in protein – always a challenge for a vegetarian diet anyway – and filling. As well as tasty!

And we have very little money. We are in our mid-twenties and lucky enough to call Tooting our home. I love Tooting and the eclectic mix of people, shops and restaurants (great place for vegetarians!)  – but all of these benefits do come with a fairly hefty price tag for rent.

We aren't skint, but we are on a budget. We are already fairly economical with our food but like most people we are guilty of wasting a lot of what we buy. I am DETERMINED to reduce the waste.

This blog will track my progress as I try to cook delicious and (mostly) healthy vegetarian meals on a budget, using what’s in the store cupboard and some serious creativity. Please join me on my journey and try some of my recipes...let me know how you get on!
